Traffic Safety Plan
School of Operation: 7:20 am – 4:00 pm- Students are not permitted to enter the school building until 7:20 am. After 4:00 students are not permitted to re-enter the school building with the exception of planned after-school activities.
a. Identification of parking spaces: Staff and visitors are able to park within the designated parking lots without restriction except for handicapped spaces.
b. Identification of student drop and pick up areas: Cars pull into the loop from Norfolk St. and drive around the parking lot. Three teachers are on duty along with student safety patrols from 7:20-7:40 am each morning. One teacher is standing in the crosswalk stopping cars for the parents/students who parked to cross the street. The other two teachers and safeties are located on the curb opening car doors and monitoring students as they walk into the building. In the afternoon, parents may begin picking up their child at 2:15 pm in the front car loop if their assigned number is displayed in the windshield. This number tells the staff member on duty that the parent is an authorized adult for the student that is assigned to that number. The administrator on car duty has the list of students and their assigned numbers. If parents do not have a number, he/she must go into the front office and show ID. Once again at least 3 faculty members are present outside to help escort students to their car and to monitor the crosswalk.
c. Identification of main or single point of entry available for parent use: The main entrance is available for parent use as their main entryway. There are signs that direct parents to this entrance and school buzzer on each exterior door.
d. Directional flow of traffic, including entrances and exits: At the entrance to the school there are signs directing parents to parent drop-off as well as visitor and staff parking. There are also white painted arrows in the parking lot directing traffic from entrance to exit.
e. Identification of bus loop- morning and afternoon: Buses enter the loop from Cole Blvd. Three staff members are assigned to the bus ramp each morning and exceptional education teachers are on the ramp to assist their students getting off the buses. All staff members are monitoring students as they exit the buses and walk into the school or cafeteria for breakfast. Staff members are on duty from 7:20-7:40 am (or whenever all buses have arrived). In the afternoon, students are dismissed from their classroom 2 grade levels at a time, beginning at 2:10pm. At least 3 faculty member are on bus duty and all teachers must walk their students to the bus ramp. Buses dismiss at 2:15 pm.
